Cold Brew Coffee: Recipes for the Summer

Cold Brew Coffee | Recipes For The Summer
If you’re looking to serve up delicious coffee this summer, while taking advantage of the hot weather to enjoy something a little cooler, we recommend cold brew coffee as the perfect place to start with our variety of recipes.

Making cold brew coffee is simple, and as it infuses slowly it tastes incredibly smooth and sweet which makes the perfect base for iced coffees. With this method and our delicious list of recipes using your cold brew coffee, you’ll be making delicious barista quality coffee from home in no time!

Here’s How:

Step One: First take one cup of coffee beans and grind them coarsely as discussed in our grinder article. The slow infusion pulls maximum flavour from your coffee beans without bittering the flavour.

Step Two: When grinding them, use short sharp bursts until the coffee beans resemble course meal.

Step Three: Transfer your coffee meal to a container and pour in four cups of water and gently stir.

Step Four: Now seal your container and place in the refrigerator for twelve hours and allow your coffee beans to steep.

Step Five: Once you have finished steeping your coffee, remove the container from the fridge and strain your cold brew coffee through a sieve and coffee filter to remove any trace of the coffee grounds.

Step Six: And you’re done! Transfer back to your container and you’re now ready to enjoy perfectly made cold brew coffee. Store your cold brew coffee in the fridge for up to one week.

Intenso Iced Coffee

For our cold brew coffee method we highly recommend using our Intenso blend, which is not only ideal for cold brew coffee, but works perfectly across our range of recipes below.

Quick steps to personalise your perfect cold brew:

  • If you prefer a stronger cup of coffee, make your cold brew recipe stronger by simply adding half a cup more at the start of our process.
  • Make sure your beans are coarsely ground.
  • Use filtered or bottled water if possible.
  • Steep for at least 12 hours.
  • Keep it cold and serve with ice.
  • If you want an even colder brew, without dilution, why not transfer some of your freshly steeped cold brew into an ice cube tray to freeze and serve in your drink?

How to Serve Cold Brewed Coffee

On Its own

Yup, it's that simple! Take a glass and fill it with ice and cold brew, or with milk poured over, and you’re ready to enjoy perfectly iced coffee straight from the fridge.

  • Fruit of your choice.

Directions:

  • Pour tonic water first to avoid separation.
  • Add cold brew.
  • Drop in fruit, swirl, and enjoy.

  • Vanilla bean ice cream.

Directions:

  • Place 2-3 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a tall glass.

Ice Mocha Lollipop Sticks

For when keeping extra cool is necessary, our Mocha iced lollies combine coffee and chocolate for an extra sweet summer treat!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of cold brew.
  • ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk.
  • 6-8 tablespoons dark chocolate chips.
  • Lollipop sticks.
  • Lollipop mold.

Directions:

  • Mix sweetened condensed milk and cold brew in a separate glass or container.
  • Place 1 tablespoon of dark chocolate chips in the bottom of each popsicle mold.
  • Pour cold brew mixture in each mold.
  • Insert one popsicle stick per mold and freeze.

To remove the lollies when frozen, gently place the mold in hot water about halfway up. After a minute, just wiggle the lollipops out of the mold and enjoy.

Beans stay fresher for longer, and so your coffee should taste better, too. As soon as green coffee beans are roasted, they start to release CO2, which affects the taste. They will oxidise and slowly start to go 'stale' and have a flat taste after a while. When coffee is ground, there is a higher surface area which is exposed to oxygen and that will cause them to lose their freshness faster, so it's best to keep coffee beans whole as close to brewing as possible. Treat your coffee beans similarly to potatoes: store them in a dark, dry place. It's best they are kept in a container or the bag they come in to stop oxygen and moisture getting in.
