World Rainforest Day: Acting now to conserve our planet.
World Rainforest Day was first announced back in June 2017 with the intention to raise awareness and encourage action to help protect our planet's rainforests. While we all have a responsibly to make improved lifestyle choices, this day offers us all the opportunity to make eco-friendly decisions to help save the future of our planet.

As a coffee company, we work directly with community-based projects in areas where rainforests and their communities are dependent on a symbiotic partnership. Engaging in these partnerships including the Projericó Foundation, Rainforest Alliance and Soil Association are ways in which we are striving to help conserve the homes of local people and wildlife and producing blends such as our Organico coffee.

While purchasing products from ethical companies and choosing Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade Foundation certified tea and coffee is a step in the right direction, there's always more work that can be done! Simple steps like reducing food waste while ensuring you’re only purchasing and using what you need has huge benefits when taking your carbon footprint into account.

With household greenhouse gas emissions not decreasing, but increasing by two million tonnes per year since 1990*, we all have a part to play, starting in our own homes and communities. Helping your local wildlife is an excellent way to sustain global biodiversity, and even help some migrating birds on their way home. Plant insect-attracting flowers on your garden or balcony, recycle your coffee grounds and food waste as compost, while being more water and electricity conscious helps make these small steps into strides.

Why not start today and join us in showing appreciation for our rainforests around the world and shop smart with your coffee blends and habits at home. Use #WorldRainforestDay #RainforestDay and share why rainforests matter to you!

Beans stay fresher for longer, and so your coffee should taste better, too. As soon as green coffee beans are roasted, they start to release CO2, which affects the taste. They will oxidise and slowly start to go 'stale' and have a flat taste after a while. When coffee is ground, there is a higher surface area which is exposed to oxygen and that will cause them to lose their freshness faster, so it's best to keep coffee beans whole as close to brewing as possible. Treat your coffee beans similarly to potatoes: store them in a dark, dry place. It's best they are kept in a container or the bag they come in to stop oxygen and moisture getting in.
