With the new year upon us - and certainly more welcome than usual - one thing is for sure, and that’s the well-earned overindulgence over the holiday season might just make this January the perfect time to start your detox!
It’s well reported that black coffee has multiple health benefits. This includes reduced stress and aiding weight loss, while containing essential antioxidants including vitamins B2, B3, B5, potassium and magnesium.
Another benefit of coffee isn’t just in the drinking, it is waiting for you in your cafetière, handle/sump in the left-over grounds, which are perfect for exfoliating. These grounds are what makes your homemade Kokebi Coffee body scrub simple to make, whilst being both gentle and economical.
Exfoliating your skin also comes with its own benefits, making your skin appear lively and rejuvenated. It also removes dead skin cells that clog your pores, whilst nourishing and helping to improve dry skin often brought about by the colder weather.
Here’s how to make and use it:
Ingredients
- 1 cup coffee grounds.
- 1/2 cup brown sugar.
- 1/4 cup almond oil or coconut oil.
- 1/4 tsp vitamin e oil.
- 10 drops essential oil – We recommend bergamot, coconut, cedarwood, sandalwood, juniper or orange, all of which are optional.
Method | Storage
- Start by mixing the almond/coconut oil with the grains and sugar until you reach your preferred texture, add the vitamin and essential oil and mix well.
- Store in airtight container in the fridge and use within two weeks.
Application
- If you are using coconut oil, we recommend that you do not use on your face as this may block pores.
- Apply between 1 and 4 tablespoons at a time to your body.
- Massage gently into your skin in a circular motion to remove dry/dead skin.
- Clean off as much as you can with a towel before removing the rest in the shower.
- Rinse off and wash body as usual with soap.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
- When using any product on your skin, always conduct a skin test first on a small area on your forearm to ensure you don’t have negative skin reaction to it.
- Subsidise almond oil for coconut oil if you have any nut allergy.
- The oil in the body scrub may make your bathtub or shower floor slippery, so be careful on the way out!
